Aikido

Aikido,a modern Japanese martial art with a rich and fascinating philosophy, was first practiced on American soil in the 1950's. Since then the Aikido community has grown from a small group of predominately Japanese-Americans in Hawaii to include schools in every state and major city. More importantly, and unlike most other martial arts, its influence extends to people who have never set foot in an Aikido school.

On first seeing Aikido Art, many people are surprised at how dance like it looks. There are several reasons for this, but the mostimportant is that Aikido, like dance, involves blending with someone else's movement and energy. In Aikido, the purpose of this blend is to use the attacker's force and intent as a means to subdue and control him or her.
